# Warehouse Creation Fix

## Problem

Attempting to save a new warehouse via Inventory > Configuration > Warehouses > Create throws:

```
ErrorException: Attempt to read property "id" on null
CreateWarehouse.php:208 createOperationTypes
```

The error occurs every time regardless of what data is entered in the form.

## Root Cause

`CreateWarehouse.php::createOperationTypes()` (line 188) and `createRules()` (line 441) both query for virtual locations that are required as source/destination for the operation types and routing rules:

```php
$supplierLocation = Location::where('type', LocationType::SUPPLIER)->first();  // returns null
$customerLocation = Location::where('type', LocationType::CUSTOMER)->first();  // returns null
```

Both return `null` because the inventory plugin's base virtual locations had never been seeded into the `inventories_locations` table. The code then crashes trying to access `$supplierLocation->id`.

The `inventories_locations` table contained only 12 orphaned rows — these were created by `createLocations()` during two previous failed warehouse creation attempts. Because the crash happens inside `createOperationTypes()` (called after `createLocations()`), the location rows are written to the DB before the exception is thrown, leaving orphans.

## Why the Base Locations Were Missing

The inventory plugin's `DatabaseSeeder` seeds a set of base virtual/system locations that must exist before any warehouses can be created:

| ID | Type | Name |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | view | Physical Locations |
| 2 | view | Partners |
| 3 | view | Virtual Locations |
| 4 | **supplier** | **Vendors** ← needed by createOperationTypes |
| 5 | **customer** | **Customers** ← needed by createOperationTypes |
| 6 | transit | Inter Company Transit |
| 7 | transit | Inter Warehouse Transit |
| 8 | inventory | Inventory Adjustment |
| 9 | production | Production |
| 10 | inventory | Scrap |
| 11–16 | view/internal | Default WH warehouse locations |

These were never seeded, so IDs 1–12 in the table belonged to the orphaned warehouse-creation attempts instead.

## Fix

All other inventory tables were confirmed empty before proceeding (no real data to lose):

```
inventories_warehouses:        0
inventories_operation_types:   0
inventories_routes:            0
inventories_rules:             0
inventories_operations:        0
inventories_product_quantities: 0
inventories_scraps:            0
inventories_moves:             0
inventories_move_lines:        0
inventories_locations:         12 (all orphaned)
```

Run the full inventory database seeder:

```bash
php artisan db:seed --class="Webkul\\Inventory\\Database\\Seeders\\DatabaseSeeder"
```

This seeder:
1. Deletes all rows from all inventory tables (safe since they were empty)
2. Inserts the 16 base locations including the required Vendors (supplier) and Customers (customer)
3. Seeds the default WH warehouse, routes, operation types, and routing rules

After seeding, warehouse creation works correctly.

## If This Happens After Reinstall

If the inventory plugin is reinstalled from scratch, the `inventories:install` command should run the seeders automatically via `InstallCommand::runSeeders()`. If it does not, or if the DB is partially wiped, run the seeder manually:

```bash
php artisan db:seed --class="Webkul\\Inventory\\Database\\Seeders\\DatabaseSeeder"
```

**WARNING:** This deletes all inventory data. Only run it when the inventory tables are empty (no real stock movements, warehouse records, etc.).

If you need to add the missing locations without wiping existing data (e.g. warehouses already exist and have stock), insert just the supplier and customer locations manually:

```php
use Webkul\Inventory\Models\Location;
use Webkul\Inventory\Enums\LocationType;
use Webkul\Security\Models\User;
$user = User::first();
// Create Partners parent (if it doesn't exist)
$partners = Location::firstOrCreate(
    ['type' => LocationType::VIEW, 'name' => 'Partners'],
    ['is_scrap' => false, 'is_replenish' => false, 'parent_id' => null, 'creator_id' => $user->id]
);
Location::firstOrCreate(
    ['type' => LocationType::SUPPLIER],
    ['name' => 'Vendors', 'is_scrap' => false, 'is_replenish' => false, 'parent_id' => $partners->id, 'creator_id' => $user->id]
);
Location::firstOrCreate(
    ['type' => LocationType::CUSTOMER],
    ['name' => 'Customers', 'is_scrap' => false, 'is_replenish' => false, 'parent_id' => $partners->id, 'creator_id' => $user->id]
);
```
